The Lost Message

I was told an anecdote: a person contacted an old and good friend through Facebook, from whom he had not heard for a long time, and they agreed that he would write an email to his personal email address.
A while passed without any news. Then he received another message from his friend saying that he had written to him, but there must have been a problem with the mail, since he had never received a reply.
Searching through the mail, looking for any misplaced messages, he came across message number one (after flipping through about two hundred pages) that was listed as unread, and indeed, it was the message from his friend that had been sent a week ago!
What happened here?
It turns out that the friend's computer was dated 10 years prior, to when they last saw each other, and so the email he sent was archived as an old message…
In this case, it's the computer that " stopped its clock ," but that computer was programmed by a person who, in 10 years, didn't realize that it had become stuck on that date, unable to move forward...
